Who's Watching the Agents? Launching Proof-of-Control, an open verification standard for the agentic era

On September 23, 2026, Advanced AI Society and LF Decentralized Trust hosted a three-hour virtual event on open verification and the launch of Proof-of-Control, examining why non-deterministic AI agents require a shift from claims-based AI to verifiable AI. The event brought together open source maintainers, enterprise security executives, insurers, and policymakers to explore open verification, extending the open source ethos from inspecting code to openly verifying agents’ actions at runtime.

Advanced AI Society introduced Proof-of-Control, the anchoring open verification standard and newest community lab at LFDT, along with its core framework, the Verifiability Tiers. Sessions explored how these foundations can help security teams design systems to openly verify agent behavior without trusting the operator, and how open standards support interoperability across verifiable AI protocols.

Speakers included Jim Zemlin, CEO of the Linux Foundation; Daniela Barbosa, Executive Director of LF Decentralized Trust; Hart Montgomery, CTO of LF Decentralized Trust; and Tricia Wang, CEO of Advanced AI Society. The program also featured speakers from AstraZeneca, Fragomen, UNICC, Advanced Cyber Law, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and organizations developing open verification technologies.

Keynotes, policy briefings, fireside chats, a deployer panel, and demonstrations covered independent verification organizations, secure infrastructure for machine trust, agent execution and AI safety, AI insurance, and the open verification research ecosystem.
