Heather Dahl

Heather Dahl

CEO at Indicio

Heather Dahl

Heather Dahl

CEO at Indicio

Heather launched Indicio in 2020, a software development firm that provides decentralized identity networks and products needed for building, testing and deploying digital identity solutions. Prior, Heather was the executive director of the Sovrin Network, a nonprofit that was the leading early adopter of decentralized identity. Under her leadership, the Sovrin Network expanded across the globe.

She successfully lead the launch of Indicio after identifying critical gaps in the decentralized identity marketplace: the lack of top-flight engineering support for companies and organizations that wanted to build identity solutions, the absence of a professionally-run network for enterprise-scale projects, and missing software to make a decentralized ecosystem fully operational.

Heather is credited with making Indicio into the leading global developer of decentralized identity software for enterprise-grade solutions and the leading global network for mission-critical decentralized identity solutions. Through a successful collaboration with SITA, the leading global provider to the air transport industry, Indicio is poised to change the way we travel. Through Cardea, which was adopted as a Linux Foundation Public Health project, Indicio can now deploy off-the-shelf identity solutions for any kind of health credential or public health deployment.
Under Heather’s leadership, Indicio launched multiple verifiable digital credential solutions in areas from fintech to energy for a growing global client base and is poised to develop decentralized identity solutions for the IoT and physical asset space. These complete Decentralized identity toolsets solve the pain points of verification and data liability, fraud, efficiency, and cost savings in managing complex data systems while implementing zero trust security architecture to simplify consumer consent in the face of a growing compliance burden. Heather identified Decentralized identity as a symbiotic technology that successfully melds with existing systems to provide an easy and cost-effective path to integration, adaptation, and innovation.

Heather has shown that by creating a company relentlessly focused on building successful implementations and user experiences, this technology has exponential growth potential.

This is what led Heather to launch Indicio, a public benefit corporation to advance decentralized identity. Committed to the development of open-source software, Indicio provides training, support, governance, and hosting services for a growing list of global clients that successfully demonstrate time and time again the ability for decentralized identity to solve fundamental problems in online verification, identity, privacy, and zero trust security.

Prior to her work in digital identity, Heather led research teams at KPMG and at telecommunications firm Neustar. Heather has an MBA from Johns Hopkins University, and an MSC from Columbia. She served as chair of the National Press Foundation board of directors and as chair of the Congressional Correspondents Association. Heather is widely regarded as a global thought leader on online privacy and security issues, and advises governments and global NGOs on decentralized identity applications. Heather is a committed advocate for privacy-preserving cybersecurity technologies
