Applications Are Open: Web3j Libraries Full Lifecycle Development Mentorship Project
We’re excited to share that applications are now open for the next Web3j Mentorship under LF Decentralized Trust: LFDT - Web3j Libraries Full Lifecycle Development.
This is a great opportunity for developers who want to strengthen their Java skills, deepen their understanding of blockchain development, and contribute directly to one of the key libraries for Ethereum integration in the JVM ecosystem.
According to the LF Decentralized Trust mentorship program timeline, the mentee application period runs from March 31, 2026, to May 8, 2026, and the working period runs from June 15, 2026 to November 30, 2026, with mentees expected to commit about 12–15 hours per week.
Why this mentorship matters
The Web3j library is an essential tool for Java and JVM-based developers building on Ethereum. It enables communication with Ethereum clients, interaction with smart contracts, and integration with blockchain networks.
At the same time, keeping Web3j aligned with the latest Ethereum standards and Ethereum Improvement Proposals is a constant challenge. As described in the mentorship description, this project is focused on improving the core Web3j libraries, reducing existing issues, integrating missing EIPs, improving documentation, and making the project more maintainable and easier to work with.
This is not just a learning exercise. It is a chance to contribute to software that developers actively use, while helping make Ethereum development smoother and more sustainable for Java and JVM-based projects.
What you can expect to learn
This mentorship is especially well suited for people interested in Java, blockchain, Ethereum integration, and open source engineering practices.
Based on the project description, mentees will have the opportunity to:
- gain hands-on experience contributing to an open source blockchain library
- improve their understanding of Ethereum integration in JVM applications
- develop stronger Java skills in the context of blockchain and smart contract development
- build experience with software library architecture, Solidity smart contracts, testing, and maintainability
- learn open source collaboration practices such as issue tracking, code reviews, and pull request workflows
- understand more about release processes and code management in a production open source project
LF Decentralized Trust also describes the mentorship program more broadly as a way for mentees to gain real-world open source development experience, make meaningful contributions, build relationships with experienced professionals, and showcase their work through blogs, talks, or event presentations.
A proven path to real contribution
This project builds on a similar mentorship from the previous program, which already resulted in significant code contributions, documentation, and blog posts.
LF Decentralized Trust has also highlighted prior Web3j mentorship outcomes and mentee experiences publicly, including the 2025 Web3j mentorship track and follow-up technical blog content from mentees.
That matters because it shows this mentorship is not theoretical. It leads to real work, real collaboration, and real impact.
