AI agents are starting to act on our finances, medical records, benefits, and rights, faster than humans can follow, and soon they will outnumber us. When an agent acts, we usually cannot independently confirm what it did, or whether it stayed within the controls it was given. That gap between what a machine does and what anyone can verify is the Verifiability Gap, and closing it is one of the defining challenges of this era.
Closing it requires Open Verification: tamper-evident evidence, generated by the mechanism as an agent acts, openly verifiable by anyone, where what you trust is the mechanism itself rather than the operator's account of what happened.

At this conference, Advanced AI Society, an LFDT member, introduces Proof-of-Control v0.1: an industry-led, open standard for tamper-evident evidence that an agent stayed within its given controls, tied to a known operator, across six domains — provenance, privacy, portability, authorization, identity, and security. Proof-of-Control is one path to Open Verification, built to serve as the foundational anchor for a third-party open verification community.
An open standard turns scattered, proprietary logs into evidence that travels between buyers, insurers, and regulators and means the same thing to each. Because Proof-of-Control is open and industry-led rather than vendor property, it produces neutral records that any third party can verify without privileged access or reliance on operator self-attestation. And it compounds with every adopter: as agents act at machine speed, a shared standard becomes a flywheel, where each new deployment is simpler to verify and more valuable to the next adopter than the last.
