PROJECT & LAB WEBSITE GUIDELINES

Support the ecosystem

These guidelines apply to all websites, documentation portals, and public-facing digital properties associated with initiatives designated as new "Projects" or "Labs" within the LF Decentralized Trust ecosystem.

These sites operate under the umbrella of The Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust and are subject to its policies regarding branding, legal compliance, and use. They are non-commercial in nature and are intended solely to support the mission of advancing secure, open source technologies for decentralized trust infrastructure.

To maintain consistency, integrity, and alignment across the ecosystem, all such sites must:

  • Adhere to LF Decentralized Trust’s branding and visual identity standards
  • Reflect a tone that is professional, inclusive, and technically accurate
  • Clearly communicate their status as part of the LF Decentralized Trust community, not as independent commercial ventures
  • Include appropriate licensing, governance, and contribution information in line with Linux Foundation requirements

1. Naming & Sub‑Affiliation

  • On the homepage (typically footer or hero section) include the sub‑affiliation statement: “An LF Decentralized Trust Project” or “An LF Decentralized Trust Lab” as appropriate.
  • Reference the full brand guidelines document

2. Logo & Visual Identity

  • Place the official LF Decentralized Trust logo in the website footer, alongside or above the copyright and trademark statement.
  • Do not alter the LF DT logo, change colours, create unapproved variants, or combine it with other trademarks without permission.
  • For full visual identity specifications (colour palette, typography, iconography), reference the Brand Guidelines

3. Website Footer Requirements

Every affiliated site must include in the footer:

  • The initiative affiliation line, e.g.: An LF Decentralized Trust Project
  • The legal attribution, exactly as follows:

© 2025 The Linux Foundation. All rights reserved.
The Linux Foundation has registered trademarks and uses trademarks. For a list of trademarks of The Linux Foundation, please see our Trademark Usage page.

4. Tone, Language & Content Style (Best Practices)

  • Never hyphenate open source
  • Use a professional, technically fluent, insight‑led tone: address engineers, architects, maintainers, decision‑makers.
  • Avoid vendor‑centric marketing, excessive hype, and hyperbole.
  • Emphasise open source, interoperability, user agency, transparency, resilience.
  • Ensure any claims are precise, measurable, and supported by architecture or data rather than broad generalisations.

5. Compliance & Governance

  • Ideally, prior to launch, website branding should be reviewed against the Brand Guidelines to verify compliance of logo usage, colour contrast, spacing, typography and legal statements.
  • If any variant of the logo or a combined mark is proposed, prior approval must be sought from the marketing@lfdecentralizedtrutst.org
  • The initiative must maintain an updated version of the footer legal text each year (e.g., © 2026 next year).

6. Prohibited Activities

Websites and digital properties under the LF Decentralized Trust umbrella are not permitted to engage in activities that suggest commercial intent or violate the community-first, open source mission of the Linux Foundation. Specifically, these sites may not:

  • Collect or solicit sales leads, including through forms, gated content, or tracking mechanisms designed to generate business opportunities
  • Elicit or encourage the purchase of products, services, or subscriptions
  • Promote commercial offerings, pricing information, or proprietary solutions not aligned with open source governance
  • Present content or calls to action that imply endorsement or affiliation for marketing purposes beyond the scope of the project’s technical mission
  • Host advertisements or sponsored content
  • Engage in fundraising or financial solicitations not explicitly approved through the Linux Foundation’s governance process

These guidelines are designed to preserve the neutrality, transparency, and collaborative integrity of the LF Decentralized Trust ecosystem. All digital assets must reflect the shared values of openness, non-commercial stewardship, and community-led development
