SAN FRANCISCO and GENEVA, September 1, 2026 – Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust (LF Decentralized Trust) today announced it will be the new home for the projects and communities of the OpenWallet Foundation. Effective January 1, 2027, OpenWallet will become part of LF Decentralized Trust, bringing its open source wallet and credential technologies into the Linux Foundation’s flagship foundation for decentralized technologies and digital trust.
Daniela Barbosa, General Manager of Decentralized Technologies and Executive Director of the LF Decentralized Trust, will assume leadership of OpenWallet under the LF Decentralized Trust umbrella. OpenWallet founder Daniel Goldscheider will, at the same time, transition to working full time as Secretary of the newly announced Global Digital Collaboration.
The integration of OpenWallet into LF Decentralized Trust will create new opportunities for collaboration across digital identity, credentials, wallets, cryptography, blockchain and other decentralized technologies, while maintaining the open governance and community-driven development that have defined OpenWallet from its inception. All existing OWF project governance, technical steering committees, and charters will remain unchanged.
“OpenWallet has built an extraordinary community around one of the most important layers of emerging digital infrastructure,” said Daniela Barbosa, Executive Director of LF Decentralized Trust. “Bringing OpenWallet projects and community into LF Decentralized Trust will connect that community with a much broader ecosystem working on identity, trust and decentralized technologies. Wallets are increasingly where credentials, payments, identity and digital assets converge, and bringing these communities closer together creates exciting opportunities to build interoperable open source infrastructure at global scale.”
“From day one, OpenWallet could not have had a better home than the Linux Foundation,” said Daniel Goldscheider, founder of the OpenWallet Foundation and Secretary of the Global Digital Collaboration (GDC). “Linux Foundation CEO Jim Zemlin, Daniela, and the entire Linux Foundation team understood from the beginning that digital wallets are infrastructure and that the foundations of this infrastructure should be open. I am excited about the next chapter for OpenWallet and the expanded collaboration to come with the LF Decentralized Trust ecosystem and the GDC.”
